election day thoughts

As the citizens of our nation go to the polls today, I thought I’d share two things. 1) What the Scripture says about politics and 2) What the Scripture does not say about politics.

First, Scripture gives us assurance that no matter who is elected in whatever country that God is ultimately in control:

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.” (Proverbs 21:1)

“Everyone must submit himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” (Romans 13:1)

Second, it is sometimes interesting to notice what is not in Scripture. The early church was a countercultural movement. Therefore, we do not read about the apostles or early church leaders picketing, protesting or calling down their political leaders. They quietly and often secretly went about their business of making disciples of Jesus.

I’ve heard lots of doom and gloom about our country if “so and so” gets elected. Just remember that the king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord and that no authority exists except that which is ordained by God. Pray for our leaders and quietly go about our business of making disciples of Jesus no matter who is elected today.

And by the way, exercise your privilege and GO VOTE!>

Many people have asked us if we plan to stay in Peachtree City or relocate to Newnan. We feel that in order to more effectively build relationships in the area where we will be helping plant the church, we will need to relocate to the Newnan area. We’ve actually had our house on the market since this past Memorial Day weekend. As we sensed God moving us, we were pretty sure it was going to mean relocating and selling our house so we wanted it to be on the market during the “prime” selling time of the summer months (if there is such a thing as “prime” in our economy right now!). It hasn’t sold yet and showings have really dropped off. If you know of anyone moving to Peachtree City and looking for a completely remodeled home on a large lot with a treehouse perfect for kids, please have them contact us.
